Necessary Voices Society was incorporated as a non-profit society in August 2001.
Its mandate is to promote civil dialogue on essential issues of the day. To that end the society produes the Necessary Voices Lecture Series and the Necessary Vision Film Series, as well as offering audio CDs and DVDs for purchase.

Necessary Voices was started to present ideas often marginalized or omitted from mainstream culture and media in hopes of fostering a more compassionate planetary society. It is the society's belief that we can accomplish peace through open civil dialogue between groups usually alienated from each other due to hostilities. 'Progress' can be accomplished, as John Raulston Saul has said through the confusion, thereby letting ideas develop. If we remain isolated in our own cliques, with a sense of fascistic superiority, whether we're the ones with the power of those seeking it, our world and hearts will always be at war.
